Have you ever wondered where all of the religions came from? Religion is a fascinating and very interesting thing in the world if you really take your time to learn and understand. All the differences and specifics details is just to leave a person in awe. Being in a different religion than someone else doesn’t mean it has to separate you negatively. A loving quote by Khalil Gibran is that “I love you when you bow in your mosque, kneel in your temple, pray in your church. For you and I are sons of one religion, and it is the spirit”- Khalil Gibran (Think Exist). This quote shows we can love eachother even if we believe in different religions. Islam and Catholicism are just two of the many religions that inhabit the world. While the two are similar in some aspects, it is the differences that set them apart. The differences that will be examined in this essay are prayer in Catholicism and Islam. Specifically it will contrast the method of prayer,Importance of prayer BASED OF THE SHARIA LAW A CATHOLIC TEACHING OF CATHOLISMS`0prayer and the benefits of praying in Islam and Catholicism Through these comparisons it can allow the reader to learn more about religions, the required responsibilities to pray in these religions and how people have to do different things to practise their religion. The method of praying for muslims is quiet specific and all rules/steps must be followed or the prayer wont count. To pray the first thing needed is the intentions. If you are just praying to just show off to someone such as your parents that you are praying the prayer does not count, you must actually want to pray for it to count. Before even started to pray you must have ablution(wudu). This is a cleansing ritual of cleaning yourself before praying. It is done by the washing of hands, mouth, nose face, arms, hair, ear and feet in that specific order. If one of the following things are done ablution must be redone for the prayer to count; passing urine, feces or gas, sleep, sexual discharge and touching of sexual organ. Also when about the pray the surrounding area must be clean and you shold be standing on a prayer mat facing the khabba. Finally prayer can be started which consists of vasrious different positions and the actual prayer is soken in arabic. Also at the five different times of day for prayer it will be different consisting of different words and lengths of the prayer. “How one prays depends on the purpose of one’s prayer.”(Richert). This shows that in Catholicism prayer is different and depends on the person. Prayer can be formal or informal, verbal or nonverbal, active or contemplative. Prayer is done by communicating with God. Just as we talk and share with our best friends what is happening in our lives, so we talk and share with God. Just as we listen to our friends, so we listen to God. We communicate with God using words and songs, in imagination and silence, and ritually or spontaneously. We can pray in church, our gardens, our cars, or while in the shower. We can also pray lying in bed, as the first thing we do when we awake, and as the last thing we do as we drift off to sleep. Tis shows there is a lot of variety when in comes to prayer.b The Catechism names three major expressions of prayer: vocal prayer, meditation, and contemplative prayer. Vocal prayer is giving voice to what is stirring in our hearts and in our souls. Vocal prayer can be as simple just saying thank you god or it can be done in groups such as at church. Some types of prayers are Sign of the Cross, the Hail Mary, the Lord’s Prayer, and a mealtime blessing. To meditate is to reflect on or think about God. When we meditate, we keep our attention and focus on God so that we can recognize his presence in our daily lives. You can use scriptures such as the gospels to pray. Contemplative prayer is when we rest quietly in God’s presence, we engage in contemplation. In contemplation we spend time with God in wordless silence, aware that he is with us. This is the comparison of prayer in Islam and Catholicism.Prayer is an important part for most religions. In order to pray you must understand its importance therefore some general background about prayer and its importance in Catholicism and Islam will be given. Prayer in Islam has many names such as salah and namaz. It is also one of the five pillars in Islam. Prayers were made obligatory to people and prophets as seen when Allah spoke directly to Moses, he said: “And I have chosen you, so listen to that which is inspired to you. Verily, I am Allah! There is none worthy of worship but I, so worship Me and offer prayer perfectly for My remembrance.” Taha 13-14. The importance of the prayers lies in the fact that no matter what actions one performs in his life, the most important aspect is one’s relationship to Allah is your faith. According to Islamic law, prayers have a variety of obligations. There are spiritual conditions and aspects of prayer which represent its essence. Therefore, prayer is the response to this Divine directive to worship the Creator. Prayer represents the individual’s affirmation of servanthood . It also represents a willing acknowledgment of our weakness and neediness by seeking Divine Grace, Mercy, Abundance and Forgiveness. Prayer, then, is a willful, directed action by the believer, seeking direct, unmediated communication with Allah. In the Catechism of the Catholic church it is said that we often think of prayer primarily as asking God for something, prayer, properly understood, is a conversation with God or with the saints. Just as we cannot hold a conversation with another person unless he can hear us, the very act of praying is an implicit recognition of the presence of God or the saints here with us. And in praying, we strengthen that recognition of the presence of God, which draws us closer to Him. That is why the Church recommends that we pray frequently and make prayer an important part of our daily lives.    Everyone receives benefits in prayer no matter what religion. Some benefits may be similar for all religions while there also are some differences in islam Prayer, or Salat, was made obligatory for all Muslims, whether they be rich or poor, strong or weak, black or white, male or female. Prayer allows the believer to enrich their spirituality and cultivate the soul’s right to love and worship the Creator, Allah. considered vital to attain success in this life and the hereafter. Following the testimony of faith, performance of the prayers at their correct times and complete in bowings, prostrations and humility, will guarantee forgiveness from God and everlasting paradise. Muslims believe that the first matter that they will be brought to account for on the Day of Judgment is the prayer. If it is sound, then the rest of their deeds will be sound. And if it is bad, then the rest of his deeds will be bad. Prayer provides a constant reminder of the essence of our creation and provides a direct connection to Allah, Prayer purifies the heart and truly, through Prayer, a believer attains spiritual devotion and moral elevation. Prayer not only gives a deep connection with God, but in prayer one establishes patience, humility and sincerity. Prayer provides a means of repentance and is a restrainer from shameful and unjust deeds. This is portrayed through the following saying of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh):”If a person had a stream outside his door and he bathed in it five times a day, do you think he would have any filth left on him?” The people said, “No filth would remain on him whatsoever.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) then said, “That is like the five daily prayers: Allah wipes away the sins by them.” (From the Hadeeth collections of Al-Bukhari and Muslim.) In Christianity praying offeres all inds of benefits; closer relationship with god, feel better about yourself, prayers come true and many more. Promises were made from Mary to Christians Who Recited the Rosary; Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the rosary, shall receive signal graces. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the rosary. The rosary shall be a powerful armour against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will left them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means. The  soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the rosary, shall not perish. Whoever shall recite the rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church. Those who are faithful to recite the rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the rosary. The faithful children of the rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in heaven. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the rosary. All those who propagate the holy rosary shall be aided by me in their necessitites. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all advocates of the rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death. All who recite the rosary are my sons, and brothers of my only son Jesus Christ. Devotion of my rosary is a great sign of predestination.
