Cubism the art movement that created by Pablo Picasso it is one of
the most influential art style in the early 20th century between 1908-1914.
Cubism is like standing at certain points on a mountain and looking around. If
you go higher, things will look different and if you go lower again things will
be different. Its a point of view. Cubism was a revolution style of modern art,
developed by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. The cubists challenge
conventional forms to representation, such as perspective which had been the
rule since the renaissance. In this art movement artist have to breaking
figures and objects down into distinct planes or areas the artist point is to
show the different viewpoints at the same time and within the same space. They
also have to emphasized the two dimensions of the canvas instead of creating
the illusion of the depth. Les demoiselles one of his most important
painting that he made in 1907 in Paris. The title translates to the young
ladies of Avignon which refers to a street that’s not in France but is in
Barcelona. The idea of rendering a woman who is available to the male viewer.
Like some old painting like Manet or Olympia. Many artists see this as the
foundation on which cubism is built so it’s this radical break that points to
the future and it’s a radical break with these conventions of representation
that had for so long been accepted in the west about how you make a body in
space, how you create space.
