Regulative rules:

1.     Regulation of stereotype enforcement: It is pivotal to advocate reverence to all individuals in terms of their ethnic background. Posts or opinions, that insult an individual through stereotypes is unethical.

2.     Logic over opinion: Unless one is an editor of a large news corporation or an important leader, opinions should be avoided. Rather, logical reasoning should be used to decipher an issue. In pieces and posts online, the opinions should not solve the problems, but in fact, the issue should be solved through logic.

3.     Language: Language of writing that is used to calumniate or disparage another individual is unbecoming. Even in a situation of grave disagreement, one could easily report a comment or user online, instead of choosing to ‘wrestle with pigs’ and administer the contagion of insulting language.

Constitutive rules:

1.     No hate comments: Everybody is entitled to their own choices. However, propagating one’s beliefs, especially when they are beliefs and not scientific fact or a cause of hurt to another, is something to be avoided.

2.     Avoid provocation: Provocation is equivalent to causing an issue where there needs to be none. It is best to not use new media platforms to poke our opponents with a stick. Rather, it should be a platform to calmly expound one’s state of reasoning.

3.     If it won’t help, it isn’t necessary: If any content online isn’t helpful to an issue, it is best left unsaid. Such pieces would only worsen issues without offering aid to bring about solutions. This not only causes stagnation but also brings about degeneration.

Identities:

Face-to-face –I present my identity to others as kind, carrying and respectful, no matter what the situation is. Even though sometimes I would disagree with someone, I would never show disrespect to others, I would share my opinion why I disagree with them in a civilized way.

Online – When it comes to an online identity, discretion can be the key to earning a little bit of respect. It is not to say that one should be reclusive, however, one should offer information on a “need to know” basis. Spewing out needless and personal information not only comes across as ‘needy’, but it would perhaps cause one to lose credibility in serious situations.

Furthermore, when it comes to producing content upon a serious subject matter, it is imperative to expatiate to the best of one’s ability. The more serious the situation, the richer the discourse should be. Profound issues should not be reduced to merely taking sides.

Improving self-concept – Self-concept is developed over time. If we observe our actions in situations that ad good, bad and everything in between, we form an opinion of ourselves. Sometimes we have good opinions, sometimes bad and sometimes we may even be in denial. Either way, it is our thoughts, words and actions over a prolonged period of time that helps formulate this opinion. When we have an opinion of ourselves, we formulate a certain concept that we would like to meet or maintain. For instance, if I am impatient, I would like to be more patient in order to meet a certain concept.

Improving this self-concept comes from accepting or admitting one’s flaws and steadily working on them through introspection, observation, compassion and even a little restraint if necessary. Such attributes need to be practiced both virtually and socially to bring about an improvement.
